During the Level Four lockdown in April 2020, Giblin Group worked on a Feasibility Study for Midway Surf Lifesaving Club, Gisborne. Midway Surf Lifesaving Club was successful in securing $5 million dollars from the Covid-19 Response and Recovery Fund towards the project.
The proposal is for a new fit-for-purpose, future-proof lifeguarding facility to replace the ageing clubhouse on the Gisborne waterfront. The plans include a lifeguarding tower with a 190-degree view and modern communications technology.
The new Club will be the home of coastal aquatic community academy and a key facility in the growing recreation hub of the Midway Beach area. Potentially, it will also offer conference facilities, house a restaurant and have a kiosk for coffee or ice-cream.
Our Feasibility Study supported the successful application to the Covid-19 Response and Recovery Fund. This fund called for “shovel ready” projects to get the economy moving again following lockdown.
The Midway Club will do this and much more. It will be a wonderful place for young people to learn and will help create a safer Tairāwhiti-Gisborne community.
